Old Indian Stamps: Represents the great Indian culture

India is the first country in Asia which has seen the birth of postal service. 1st July 1852; postal service is started from Sindh and its name was “Scinde Dawks”. It was the first issue of postal service in Asia continent. World’s first stamp is Penny Blacks which is released by the Great Britain by Sir Rowland Hill in 1840. And Scinde Dawk was releases just after 14 years from the world’s first stamp. Therefore, Indian postal services saw entire evolution of the world as well as India and did imprint it on the stamps.

Some famous old Indian stamps:

Scinde Dawk: It was the first stamp of Indian postal history. It was born on middle of 18th century at Sindh. It was red and circular and the price of this stamp is 1/2 Anna. It was a semi-postal and not available for official purpose.

Indian Queen Victoria Postage Stamps: After the Scinde Dawk; Indian Queen Victoria Postage Stamps came in series. This stamp decorated with the sketch of Queen Victoria and it was printed at the De La Rue in England. This stamp was introduced in 1854 and the value of this stamp was 4 Anna.

Stamps of the Republic of India: When India was released from the British rule in 1947; it released three different stamps printed with “India Postage”. The first stamps had Indian Flag Design and it was dedicated to International mail. Second stamp had imprinted with India’s national emblem and used in local mail. While third stamp representing a Douglas CD-4 airplane and it was for airmails.

Commemorative stamps of India: : The Commemorative stamps had promoted to show the national or international event. It was released on 1949 at the 75 anniversary of the stamp and it was the Mahatma Gandhi 1948 memorial stamps.
